How Shop Pay Installments Work

When you select Shop Pay Installments at checkout, you are applying for a loan provided by Affirm. If your application is approved, your total purchase cost will be divided into multiple smaller payments. Payments are made directly to Affirm and may be scheduled on a bi-weekly or monthly basis, depending on the installment options available to you at checkout.

Based on your location, the total purchase amount, and the available plans, a down payment may be required at checkout. You also have the option to pay off your loan early at any time without incurring penalties. For loans that accrue interest, paying off the remaining balance early may reduce the total interest charges.

What to expect after applying for Shop Pay Installments

After you apply for Shop Pay Installments, your application is reviewed by Affirm. You will receive an email from Affirm (shoppay@shop.affirm.com) sent to the email address associated with your Shop Pay account, notifying you whether your application has been approved. This email may be delivered to your spam or junk folder, so be sure to check those folders as well.

If your application is not approved, the email from Affirm will explain the reason and may outline next steps, if applicable. Eligibility is determined by Affirm for each individual purchase attempt, so you may be approved the next time you apply.

If your application is approved, your payment schedule will be displayed in the Shop app. You will also receive email and SMS text reminders (if applicable) before each payment is due. Push notifications can be enabled within the Shop app. You can view and manage your Shop Pay Installments orders directly in the Shop app.

While payment schedules cannot be customized, you may make early payments at any time. Manual payments can also be made through the Shop app or by logging into Shop from your web browser.
